International yachting highlight in Kiel:

Yachting chronographs for the new J80 World Champions

This year, Tutima watch brand was title sponsor of a major international yachting event that was held in Germany for the first time: the world championships of the J80 class on Schilksee Olympic course in Kiel. Of the total of roughly 1,000 J80 yachts worldwide, 64 boats from 12 nations lined up for the start of the “Tutima J80 Worlds” in Kiel. The new world champion from amongst this international field was decided in the course of eleven regattas over four days. The yachting conditions were perfect, with wind speeds of up to seven. The prizes were presented to the winning crew, captained by Ignacio Camino Rodriguez of Spain, by Cathy Kietzer (President of Kiel city council) and Jörg Delecate (Managing Director of Tutima) at the event center of Schilksee Olympic Sailing Center. Runner-up was the American team headed by Jeff Johnstone, President of J-Boats. The best German contestants were Uli Münker and Peter Hecht, who came in ninth. As well as their medals, the new J80 world champions also received a Tutima “Yachting” chronograph with professional regatta countdown display and special engraving. In addition to the Kieler Woche regattas, the “Tutima J80 Worlds” were the northern yachting highlight of the year. J80 yachtsmen frequently refer to these safe and extremely seaworthy boats as “rockets”, as they are designed to cope with wind speeds of 41 knots and up to four-meter high waves. The J80 is a nippy keel boat with a length of 8.50 m and a potential gliding speed of more than 15 knots. The total sail area is 34.5 square meters.
