Saxon One is the spectacular highlight of the new “Made in Glashütte” Tutima collection. The entire dynamic of this traditional brand’s fresh start is manifested in this striking stainless steel watch. It is sporty and elegant at the same time, and despite its respectable 44 mm diameter, it sits perfectly on the wrist. The product developers have created a technically convincing new collection that debuts at BASELWORLD 2013 with the Saxon One Chronograph.

Saxon One is not so easy to put into a single category; the shape of its case already eludes established nomenclature. Sharply cut edges reflecting light dominate the steely architecture and divide matte from polished surfaces. The three-dimensional, pyramid-shaped bezel successfully creates a harmonious transition from the taut edges of the quadratic base of the case to the round bezel holding the crystal. The screw-in crown is well protected between the two curved flanks of the effortless, large buttons of the chronograph.
The mechanical movement of Saxon One is outfitted with automatic winding and offers a power reserve of more than 40 hours. The chronograph module developed by Tutima for Caliber 521 differs from most stopwatches in that it possesses a sweep minute totalizer. With it, not only the counted seconds, but also the minutes, can be read off the clear minute scale encircling the dial. Only the 12-hour totalizer – in addition to the permanently running subsidiary seconds – is placed within a small subdial. This arrangement leaves room for a 24-hour display just underneath the 12 o’clock position as well as a date window at 3 o’clock. The movement is well stored in a shock- and water-resistant manner underneath a screw-down case back with sapphire crystal window in order to make the elegant finishing of the movement surfaces and rotor visible. The slightly domed crystal covering the dial is also crafted in scratchproof sapphire. Anti-reflective coating on the underside shows off the fine details of the wearer’s choice of an anthracite-grey or opaline silver dial with applied markers and fine scales.
The bracelet, which – like the case – is composed of polished and matte elements, is secured to the wrist by a double folding clasp with buttons to unlock it on the sides. Special components at the end ensure a seamless connection to the cushion-shaped case.
